Rifleman James Adams joined Able Company on February 21, 1944, from the 4th Signal Company. He fought on Saipan until July 1, 1944, when he was evacuated for illness. Adams returned to the company on July 19, and fought through the battle of Tinian.

Adams was promoted to corporal in the fall of 1944; he carried the BAR into action on Iwo Jima, where he was wounded on February 20, 1945. He was evacuated to the USS Bayfield, and was taken to a hospital on Saipan on March 1.

Corporal Adams did not return to combat; his further service is unknown.
