Private Kenneth Boylan was one of the original members of Able Company, 24th Marines. He received a promotion to Private First Class on August 30, 1943, and carried a Browning Automatic Rifle through the battles of Namur, Saipan, and Tinian.

Boylan was made a corporal in the fall of 1944; he served as a fire team leader during the battle of Iwo Jima. He was wounded in March, 1945, and evacuated.
