Corporal Warren Buchanan was one of the original members of Able Company, 24th Marines. On September 16, 1943, Buchanan was promoted to sergeant; he led a rifle squad into action on Namur and Saipan.

Sergeant Buchanan was wounded and evacuated from Saipan on June 16, 1944. He was transferred to Naval Hospital #10 the following month, and never returned to combat.

After the war, Buchanan went home to Illinois. He was last known to be living in Palatine.
