Lieutenant George Burcaw joined Able Company, 24th Marines as a platoon leader in the fall of 1944. He performed double duty as the battlion's War Bond Officer, a staff position created to advise the Marines on how to purchase War Bonds with their meager earnings. Many Marines availed themselves of the program when in camp, though it is hard to believe that finances were the first thing on their mind while on the front lines at Iwo Jima.
Burcaw was transferred to Second Battalion of the 24th Marines in March, 1945. His subsequent service is unknown.
