Machine gunner George Calcutt joined Able Company, 24th Marines in the fall of 1944. He trained with his new company through the winter, and made his first combat landing on February 19, 1945.

Private Calcutt was wounded and evacuated from Iwo Jima on February 20; he was finished with combat after only one day. A hospital ship brought him to Navy Base #3425 on Saipan for treatment; his subsequent service is unknown.

After the war, Calcutt returned to Pamplico, where he died in 1998.
