Thomas Cox joined Able Company as a platoon leader in the spring of 1944. He likely led the company's machine gun platoon.

Cox commanded the platoon on Saipan until he was badly wounded on June 22, 1944. He was evacuated to a naval hospital and never returned to combat.

After his discharge, Cox returned to Oregon and raised two children with his wife, Mary. He died in Roseburg in 2005, at the age of eighty eight.
