PFC Earl Crom joined Able Company in late February, 1944. He apparently ran into trouble with the company's officers, as his single stripe was revoked in the spring of 1944; Rifleman Crom went into action on Saipan and Tinian as a private.
In the fall of 1944, Crom regained his rating as a PFC; he also joined the machine gun platoon as an ammunition carrier. He fought with them during the battle of Iwo Jima, until wounded and evacauted on February 25, 1945.
Dick Crom did not return to combat; his subsequent service is unknown.
He returned to Nebraska, settled in Omaha, and raised a family there. Crom died in 2006.
