PFC Alfred Dennis joined Able Company, 24th Marines after the Tinian campaign. He carried a BAR in a rifle platoon.
Dennis was wounded during the battle of Iwo Jima on February 20, 1945. He was treated aboard the USS Hendry (APA 118), returned to the company on February 25, and served out the rest of the battle. For his exploits on Iwo Jima, Dennis was promoted to the rank of corporal.
Dennis mustered out on April 9, 1946. He married in 1955 and fathered six children before divorcing in 1986. Dennis died in Dresher, Pennsylvania in 2003, and is buried in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
