Henry Denson was raised in Phenix City, Alabama, in 1923. He joined the Marine Corps as a teenager, and after completing training at Parris Island was assigned to Able Company, 24th Marines as a BAR gunner. Denson was promoted to Private First Class on August 30, 1943; he saw action in the battle of Namur; he was promoted to corporal in the spring of 1944 and led a fire team into action on Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima

Corporal Denson was wounded in action on February 22, 1945; he was evacuated from Iwo aboard the USS Hansford (APA 106) and treated at an Army hospital on Saipan. Denson's days of combat were over; he returned to Phenix City where he died in 1979. He is buried in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Phenix City.
