With Dog Company:

Glenn Doster's original post after completing his training at Parris Island was as a heavy machine gunner in Company D, First Separate Battalion. The unit was redesignated as Dog Company, 24th Marines, while training at Camp Pendleton in 1943; PFC Doster was assigned to carry ammunition for a gun in the First Platoon. He experienced his first taste of action in the battle of Namur, and was transferred to Company A along with the rest of his platoon in the spring of 1944.

With Able Company:

Doster carried ammunition on Saipan as well; due to casualties, his squad was reorganized and Doster became the gunner. He performed admirably during the banzai charge on Tinian - so much so that he was awarded a Silver Star, a promotion to corporal, and command of a squad.

Doster landed on Iwo Jima with his team and fought until February 25, 1945, when he was badly wounded. He was evacuated from the island aboard the USS Dickens (APA 161) and sent to a hospital on Saipan; he did not return to combat.

Glenn Doster's further service is unknown. He died in Florida in 1978.
