Harry Parsons was born and raised in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. He enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating from Fort Sumner High School in 1944. He trained as an antitank gunner and was assigned to the 24th Replacement Draft attached to the Fourth Marine Division in 1944.

Private Parsons landed on Iwo Jima in February 1945; he spend several days helping to unload supplies and organize the beachhead before receiving orders to join Able Company, 24th Marines on the front lines. He participated in several assaults on the Meat Grinder before being wounded and evacuated on March 7, 1945.

Parsons' further service is unknown. He died in March, 2011.
