With Dog Company:

Joseph Peterpaul served as an ammunition carrier with Dog Company, 24th Marines during training at Camp Pendleton and in combat on Namur. He was transferred to Able Company in the spring of 1944.

With Able Company:

PFC Peterpaul became a member of Able Company's machine gun platoon. He fought in the battles of Saipan and Tinian, after which he was promoted to corporal. He led a machine gun squad into action on Iwo Jima, and survived the war unwounded.
