Private Ray Davis was one of the original members of Able Company, 24th Marines. He was promoted to Private First Class on August 30, 1943. In November of that year, he was transferred to the battalion Headquarters Company.
With Headquarters Company:
Davis became a scout with the Intelligence platoon; he likely served as the company scout for Able. He participated in the battles of Namur and Saipan, where he was slightly wounded on July 8, 1944. PFC Davis was not evacuated, and fought through the remainder of the campaign.
During the battle of Tinian, Davis was hit again, much more seriously. He was evacuated from the battlefield on July 30, 1944; it would be his last day in combat.
