With Dog Company:
Russell Sanderlin was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as a messenger with on Namur; when the company was disbanded, he was transferred to Battalion Headquarters.
With Headquarters Company:
PFC Sanderlin saw action on Saipan and Tinian with Headquarters Company as a jeep driver. He managed to survive the long Marianas campaign unwounded, and was sent to Able Company in the fall of 1944.
With Able Company:
Sanderlin was promoted to corporal after his reassignment; he replaced longtime company driver Virgil Cawood. Corporal Sanderlin was wounded on March 16, 1945 - one of the battalion's final casualties.
Russell Sanderlin died in Albany, Oregon, in 1992.
