Donald Anderson was an original member of Company D, 24th Marines. He served as an ammunition carrier in Section Platoon, under Lieutenant Joseph Swoyer.

Anderson was promoted to Private First Class on January 11, 1944, and shipped out to the battle of Namur two days later. He survived unwounded, and was transferred to Baker Company in March, 1944.

With Baker Company:

Anderson joined Baker Company's machine gun platoon and maintained his position as an ammo carrier.

He was wounded on June 15, 1944, and was evacuated from Saipan. Anderson was formally transferred to a Navy hospital in July, 1944, and did not return to the battalion.
