Harvey Armstrong was an original member of Company D, 24th Marines. He served as an ammunition carrier in Joseph Swoyer's second platoon. Armstrong served on Namur, and was transferred to Baker Company in March, 1944.

With Baker Company:

Armstrong joined Baker Company's machine gun platoon as an ammo carrier. He served on Saipan (missing in action July 1 - July 13), and on Tinian. He returned to Camp Maui with his new company, and commenced training for the invasion of Iwo Jima.

Harvey Armstrong was wounded on February 21, 1945, and evacuated from Iwo Jima.
