Amelio Cassese was an original member of Baker Company, 24th Marines. He served as a rifleman.

Cassese was wounded during the battle of Namur, probably in the early morning of February 2, as his company fought off a determined Japanese banzai attack. He was evacuated from the island, and was hospitalized. Amelio Cassese did not return to the battalion.

He died in Cuyahoga, Ohio, in 1972.
