Harmon Chichester was one of the original members of Baker Company, 24th Marines. He served as a squad leader during the battle of Namur; in the spring of 1944 his abilities were recognized with a promotion to Corporal.
Chichester was wounded on June 15, 1944, only hours after landing on Saipan. He was evacuated to a Navy hospital, and spent several months in recovery.
Corporal Chichester returned to the company in the fall of 1944; he trained for and landed on Iwo Jima but was wounded a second time on February 20, 1945. He was not returned to combat.
Chichester died in Voorheesville, NY, in 2001.
