With Dog Company:

Lewis Cline began his career in the Marines as one of the original members of Dog Company. He carried ammunition for one of the heavy machine guns of Lt. Joseph Swoyer's Second Platoon. Cline was barely 18 years old when he experienced his first taste of combat on Namur; he was transferred to Baker Company the following month.

With Baker Company:

PFC Cline remained an ammunition carried with Baker Company's machine gun platoon; though slightly wounded on June 26, 1944, he experienced the entire campaign for the Marianas with his new company. While resting and refitting at Maui, Cline was promoted in status if not in rank; he became one of the gunners for his team.

Lewis Cline landed on Iwo Jima with Baker Company; he was wounded again on February 20, but not badly enough to warrant evacuation. He stayed on the line for the entire campaign.

Lewis Cline returned to his hometown after the war. He died there in 1995.
