With Dog Company:

Alfred Eskildsen was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He was an ammunition carrier with the 81mm mortar platoon, and fought with them on Namur.

In March, Eskildsen was transferred to Baker Company.

With Baker Company:

Eskildsen re-qualified as a BAR gunner while training on Maui in the spring of 1944. His new position on the front line was far more dangerous; Eskildsen was wounded and evacuated from Saipan on June 17, 1944.

He returned to the company, having missed the battle of Tinian, and began training for Iwo Jima. He was wounded a second time on February 20, 1945, and was again evacuated; this time, he did not return to combat.
