With Baker Company:
Memphis-born Private Billy Glenn was one of the original members of Baker Company, 24th Marines. He served as one of the company's truck drivers until the battle of Namur, after which he re-qualified as a BAR gunner and was promoted to Private First Class.
Glenn was wounded on June 17, 1944, during the battle of Saipan. He was evacuated and hospitalized for several months. Upon his return, he was reassigned to Headquarters Company.
With HQ Company:
PFC Glenn kept his rating as a BAR gunner with Headquarters Company, and may have been part of the battalions assault and demolitions platoon. He survived the battle unwounded. Glenn was discharged with the rank of corporal
After the war, Billy Glenn returned to Mississippi. He died in Corinth in 1975, and is buried next to his wife in Henry Cemetery.
