With Dog Company:
Jopseh Murphy was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as a squad leader with Second Machine Gun Platoon on Namur and was transferred to Baker Company in March, 1944.
With Baker Company:
Joseph Murphy landed on Saipan with Baker Company's machine gun platoon. He was killed in action on June 16, 1944, and buried in Plot 3, Row 43, Grave 191 of the Fourth Marine Division Cemetery.
In 1949, Murphy was reinterred in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Section F, Site 184.
