With Dog Company:

Patrick Norton was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as a jeep driver, and was probably attached to the 81mm Mortar platoon.

Norton was transferred to Baker Company in March, 1944.

With Baker Company:

Norton became an ammunition carrier with Baker Company's machine gun platoon. He was wounded in action on Saipan, and was evacuated on June 18, 1944. Norton was hospitalized for several weeks, and missed the battle of Tinian.

PFC Norton returned to the machine gun platoon, and served through the battle of Iwo Jima unwounded.
