Perry Allen was an original member of Baker Company. Despite his youth, he was assigned the physically demanding job of carrying ammunition for a machine gun team. Allen was promoted to Private First Class on January 1, 1944, and twelve days later boarded ship for the battle of Namur.
Allen survived Namur without injury, and stayed with the machine guns during the reorganization of the battalion in the spring of 1944. He landed on Saipan and fought with his team until being wounded on July 6, 1944. Allen was evacuated to a Navy hospital to recover.
Perry Allen returned to the company before the battle of Iwo Jima. As a veteran of two campaigns - and still several months short of 18 - Allen was made a gunner with a new squad. He survived Iwo Jima without injury, and eventually made it home to New Mexico.
