With Dog Company:
Charles Podolski, a heavy machine gunner, was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served with the Second Machine Gun Platoon during the battle of Namur, and was transferred to Baker Company in March, 1944.
With Baker Company:
PFC Podolski requalified as a BAR gunner in the spring of 1944. He joined one of Baker Company's rifle platoons.
Podolski was wounded and evacuated from Saipan on June 16, 1944. He was transferred to a Navy hospital in July; while there, his wounds were determined to be too serious to allow him to return to the company. Podolski was honorably discharged on January 4, 1945.
After the war, Charles Podolski and his wife moved to New York. He died there in 1969, and is buried in Long Island National Cemetery, Section 2, Site 395.
