With Dog Company:
Virgil Sandy was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as an assistant cook with the company headquarters through March, 1944, when he was transferred to Baker Company.
With Baker Company:
Sandy joined the headquarters of Baker Company, and continued serving as a cook through the campaigns for Saipan and Tinian. He left the battalion in the fall of 1944.
Sandy died in Waynesboro, Virginia in 1999.
