With Dog Company:

Corporal Raymond Sherwin was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as an Ammunition NCO with company headquarters during the battle of Namur; when the company was disbanded, he was transferred to the Headquarters Company.

With HQ Company:

Sherwin was assigned as a "duty Marine" to the Battalion Headquarters. He participated in the battle of Saipan, where he was wounded but not evacuated - the date of his wounding was not recorded on the battalion rolls. After the battle concluded, Sherwin was transferred to Baker Company.

With Baker Company:

Corporal Sherwin joined Baker Company on July 14, 1944, and served through the battle of Tinian.

He was reduced in rank for unknown reasons, and landed on Iwo Jima as a Private First Class. Sherwin was wounded and evacuated from Iwo Jima on February 20, 1945, and did not return to combat.
