Dawson Brewer was born in Mason, Kentucky, in 1924. His parents died when he was young, and Dawson lived with his older sister Gertrude in Cleves, Ohio.
The young Marine joined Charlie Company in the spring of 1944. He served as an ammunition carrier with the machine gun platoon.
Brewer was wounded on July 8, 1944, during the battle of Saipan. He celebrated his twentieth birthday at an aid station behind the lines.
PFC Brewer rejoined the company a few days later, and prepared to make the landing on Tinian. He was killed in action on July 24, as his company secured the beachhead.
Dawson Brewer was buried in Plot 6, Row 3, Grave 1075 of the Fourth Marine Division Cemetery on Saipan. After the war, his sister had his body returned to Ohio and interred in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves.
