Francis Cabrall graduated from the Special Officer Candidate's School in 1944. He joined Charlie Company as a platoon leader that fall.
Cabrall was mortally wounded on February 20, 1945, shortly after landing on Iwo Jima - he had turned twenty-one just a week before. He died aboard a hospital ship three days later, never having regained consciousness.
Lieutenant Cabrall was buried in Grave 1125 of the Fourth Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima; after the war, he was interred in Golden Gate National Cemetery, Section C, Site 483.
