PFC James Chisholm joined Charlie Company in the fall of 1944. He served as a rifleman during the battle of Namur, and with the company's duty section on Saipan.

Chisholm was promoted to corporal on July 18, 1944, as the division prepared for the attack on Tinian. He was listed as "missing in action" from the date of the landing; Chisholm may have been wounded and returned to Saipan.

James Chisholm returned to the company in the fall of 1944; he rejoined one of the rifle platoons. He was slightly wounded on February 22, 1945, while fighting on Iwo Jima, then more seriously the following day. Chisholm was evacuated to a hospital ship, but returned to the lines on February 26. He fought through the remainder of the battle.
