Nicholas Chucci, a native of West Virginia, was one of the original members of Charlie Company's weapons platoon. He served as one of the platoon messengers during the battle of Namur, and became an ammunition carrier when the company organized its machine gun platoon in March, 1944.
Chucci was killed in action on June 16, 1944, the second day of the battle of Saipan. He had turned 24 the week before.
He was originally buried in Plot 3, Row 2, Grave 455 of the Fourth Marine Division Cemetery; in 1949, Chucci was reinterred in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Section C, Site 1430.
