John Ciancimino joined Charlie Company in the fall of 1944. Though rated as a sharpshooter with the M1 rifle, he was assigned to the company's mortar section.
Ciancimino fought through the battle of Iwo Jima, and survived the war unwounded. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
