With Dog Company:
Private Paul Claffey was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as an ammunition carrier in the Third Machine Gun Platoon during the battle of Namur.
In March, 1944, Claffey was transferred to Charlie Company.
With Charlie Company
Paul Claffey carried ammunition for Charlie's machine gun company through the battles of Saipan and Tinian. In the fall of 1944, he was promoted to Private First Class and moved up in position to gunner.
Claffey was wounded in March, 1945, during the battle of Iwo Jima.
After the war, Paul Claffey returned to Norwood. He died there in 1983.
