With Dog Company:
PFC Eugene Cole was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as a gunner in the Third Machine Gun Platoon during the battle of Namur.
In March, 1944, Cole was transferred to Charlie Company.
With Charlie Company
Eugene Cole was promoted to corporal in the spring of 1944. He fought as a gunner with Charlie's machine gun platoon until wounded in action on Tinian, July 31 1944.
Corporal Cole was evacuated and did not return to the battalion.
