Private Lowell Cox was one of the original members of Charlie Company, 24th Marines. He was an ammunition carrier in the weapons platoon. Cox was promoted to Private First Class on January 11, 1944, and experienced his first combat in the invasion of Kwajalein.
Cox was made a rifleman in the spring of 1944, and fought with a rifle platoon on Saipan. He was wounded and evacuated on June 28, 1944, and was hospitalized. Although he returned to the company in late 1944 - he appears on the battalion muster rolls - he did not take part in the battle of Iwo Jima.
Lowell Cox died in 1997. He is buried in Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Washington.
