With Dog Company:

Private First Class Joseph Coyle was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as an ammunition in the Third Machine Gun Platoon during the battle of Namur.

In March, 1944, Coyle was transferred to Charlie Company.

With Charlie Company

Coyle became a BAR gunner with Charlie Company. He served with a rifle platoon through the battles of Saipan and Tinian and onto Iwo Jima.

PFC Coyle was wounded and evacuated from Iwo on March 1, 1945.
