Theodore Dawdy was one of the original members of Charlie Company. He had just turned seventeen years old when the division was activated in 1943; as an ammunition carrier, Dawdy saw action on Namur, Saipan, and Tinian before reaching the legal age to buy himself a beer.

Dawdy was promoted to Private First Class in the fall of 1944, and transferred to another unit of the 24th Marines. He was killed in action during the battle of Iwo Jima.

Theodore Dawdy is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Section B Grave 1335.

Note: Theodore Dawdy's gravestone at the NMCP lists his date of birth as August 17, 1924, while the Texas Birth Index claims 1926. Reasons for this discrepency are unknown.
