Private Daniel Collins Jr. was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as a gunner in the Third Machine Gun Platoon during the battle of Namur.
In March, 1944, Collins was transferred to Charlie Company.
With Charlie Company
Collins stayed at his position of gunner with Charlie Company's machine gun platoon through the battles of Saipan and Tinian. In the fall of 1944, he was promoted to Private First Class and transferred to another platoon as a rifleman.
Collins was wounded and evacauted from Iwo Jima on February 22, 1945, and did not return to combat.
