Edward Dombrowski was one of the original members of Charlie Company, 24th Marines. He served as a BAR gunner in one of the rifle platoons.

Dombrowski fought through the battles of Namur and Saipan; he was wounded on June 22 as Charlie Company was surrounded on Hill 700 and temporarily cut off from the rest of the battalion. He was evacuated and hospitalized; Dombrowski did not return to the battalion until the fall of 1944.

As a corporal, Edward Dombrowski led a squad into action on Iwo Jima. He was killed in action on March 7, 1945. Dombrowski was buried in the Fourth Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo; after the war, he was interred in a private cemetery in New York State.
