With Charlie Company:
Rifleman Edward Gollwitzer joined Charlie Company on February 21, 1944. He had previously served with the Fourth Signal Company.
Gollwitzer was detached to the regiment's Headquarters and Service Company in the spring of 1944, and participated in the battle of Saipan. He returned to Charlie Company on July 13, and fought through Tinian.
In the fall of 1944, Gollwitzer was transferred to the Battalion Headquarters Company.
With HQ Company:
PFC Gollwitzer was listed as a scout with Headquarters Company. He appears on the muster rolls for the battle of Iwo Jima, but evidently did not participate.
Edward Gollwitzer died in Portage, Wisconsin, in 1996.
