James Adams, a regular Marine with several years service under his belt, joined Battalion Headquarters early in 1943. He served as the second-in-command of the battalion's Intelligence section.
Adams became one of the company's first casualties on February 1, 1944, during the invasion of Kwajalein. He was shot multiple times in the head and body, and died on the island of Namur. For his sacrifice, the Corps awarded him a posthumous Silver Star along with his Purple Heart.
Adams was buried in Grave 70, Plot 2, Row 3 of the Pauline Point Cemetery on Namur; after the war, he was reburied in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Section C Grave 599.
