With Dog Company:
Amos Lewis was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as a field lineman with the 81mm mortar platoon during the battle of Namur, and was transferred to the battalion's Headquarters Company in the spring of 1944.
With HQ Company:
Lewis became a radio operator with the communications platoon of Battalion Headquarters. He fought in the battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima, where he was wounded in March, 1945.
Lewis died in Arkansas in 2002. He is buried in Gilchrist Cemetery, Friendship.
