Robert Arndt joined First Battalion in the fall of 1944. He served as a field lineman, and had plenty of prior experience - the young Michigander was a veteran of the battles of Saipan and Tinian.
Arndt participated in the battle of Iwo Jima with First Battalion, and survived the war unwounded. He died in Michigan in 1999, and is buried in Ostego Lake Township Cemetery.
