With Dog Company:
Bruce Barnes was one of the original members of Dog Company's 81mm Mortar platoon. He served as one of the platoon's ammunition NCOs, responsible for the acquisition and distribution of munitions for the tubes as well as the gunners' individual weapons. Barnes saw action on Namur in February, 1944, and was transferred to Headquarters Company when his company was disbanded the following month.
With HQ Company:
Sergeant Barnes served through Saipan and Tinian with the battalion headquarters, surviving both battles unwounded. He left the battalion in the fall of 1944.
Barnes returned to New York after the war; he married twice and raised three children. He. died in Franklin in 1968. He is buried in East Side Cemetery, Chateaugay.
