PFC Eugene Bertolacci joined Headquarters Company in the fall of 1944. He served as a field lineman with the communications platoon during the battle of Iwo Jima, but was evacuated for illness on February 24, 1945.
Bertolacci settled on the West Coast after the war. He married Della Sims in a Las Vegas ceremony on July 8, 1969, but the two were not to be together long. Bertolacci died only five years later. He is buried in Section 125, Row E, Site 40 of the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
