PFC John Beard was one of the original members of Headquarters Company. He served with the Battalion HQ section as a mail clerk.

Beard was promoted to corporal after the battle of Namur, and became the senior mail clerk for the battalion. He saw action in every one of the division's battles, and was wounded on Iwo Jima in March, 1945.

John Beard died in 1967. He is buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, Section 2D, Site 4624.
