Sergeant Dulan Butler was one of the original members of the Headquarters Company. He served in the supply section as a senior clerk.
Butler ran afoul of his section commander, Marine Gunner Gerald Casey, in December of 1943. He was charged with "neglect of duty" and reduced in rank to corporal. Butler was transferred to Second Battalion, 24th Marines on January 7, 1944; his subsequent service is unknown.
After his discharge, Dulan Butler returned to North Carolina. He married multiple times and fathered several children before his death in a veteran's hospital at the age of 47.
