With Dog Company:

Lester Carver was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served with the company's duty section. Carver remained at Camp Pendleton while the Division attacked Kwajalein; he had been selected to help transfer the battalion's records, baggage, and equipment to Camp Maui.

Carver rejoined the company briefly in the spring of 1944; they were disbanded and Carver was sent to Battalion Headquarters as a driver.

With HQ Company:

PFC Carver drove a jeep for the Battalion's officers during the battle of Saipan. He did not make the Tinian landing, having once again been selected to remain with the base camp - this time to help with administration and guard the area against Japanese stragglers and wandering sticky-fingered servicemen. He returned to Camp Maui with the battalion, and went on to serve in the battle of Iwo Jima. Carver survived the war unwounded.
