With Dog Company:
John Chismar joined Dog Company, 24th Marines, in the fall of 1944. He served as an ammunition carrier with the 81mm mortar platoon during the battle of Namur, and was transferred to the Battalion Headquarters Company in March, 1944.
With HQ Company:
Chismar became part of the duty section of Battalion Headquarters. He remained at Camp Maui during the invasion of the Marianas, and was promoted to corporal in the fall of 1944. Chismar receievd a new MOS - 145, Sign Painter - and stayed at Maui for the duration of the battle of Iwo Jima. He mustered out at the end of the war.
