With Dog Company:
Joseph Coelho was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served as a gunner with the 81mm mortar platoon during the battle of Namur, and transferred to the Battalion HQ company in March, 1944.
With HQ Company:
Coelho remained with the mortar platoon, and fought on Saipan and Tinian. He was promoted to corporal in the fall of 1944, and led a mortar squad on Iwo Jima.
Joseph Coelho survived the war unwounded.
